× WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 7:00PM Tickets: $10 in advance, $15 at the door | $5 for youth Peter Rinearson & Steve Scher - Journalism Today: Polarizing Force or the Backbone of Democracy…or Both? Join two seasoned journalists for a wide-ranging discussion of the news media, and in particular its role in polarizing society—today and historically. Fractious voices on the web bring news, rumors, lies and propaganda into civic discourse with alarming efficiency. Today Facebook, Twitter, Fox News, and even the New York Times contribute to the polarization of society. Vashon resident Peter Rinearson is a Pulitzer Prize winner who wrote a book with Bill Gates, an entrepreneur who developed web-publishing systems for community content, and a former vice president of both Microsoft and a cable network. Steve Scher was a popular host and interviewer at local radio’s KUOW for almost 30 years. He is a podcaster, interviewer, and instructor in the UW Communications Department.
