× Original Works Performance Fee

Performance Dates: 3/23-3/24

Fee: $50

Original Works is a performance platform intended to be used by all VCA Dance and Vashon Dance Academy students and other choreographers and performers in the community to showcase original choreography/work of their own. We are asking that dancers of a level 4 and above, or strong dance background/experience, audition. We encourage the use of musicians, and added talents like spoken word, or visual design in the show and/or with choreography. We hope that choreographers stretch their creative selves and network with the other talent on the island to create a collection of unique pieces. This is what makes this show so special and a joy to watch, you don’t know what to expect next. Hip hop, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, contemporary, and ballet are all showcased in this production.

Original Works is a juried showcase, performers have to audition to be considered for the production. We will be having 3 auditions held on Dec 12, Jan 16, & Feb 13 at 6pm. We will meet in the Blue Heron building here at VCA, in the upstairs studio. The panel consists of all our dance teachers and dance support in the organization. Instructors on the panel are Kathy Bonner, Jessica Kennan, Vanesa Wylie, Rico Lastrapes, Allison Trundle, Tiffany Adams, Vadne Domeika, myself and our costume support Kate Guinee. We are also the coaches for the groups during this process. Coaching sessions are made available by reserving time to work with one of us for 30mins-1hr. Each group must have at least 1 coaching session during this process. We will reach out to the groups and arrange that after the first audition. We are offering costume support from our costume designer Kate Guinee, but choreographers will need to communicate if they are going to need that from her and she will coordinate with them throughout the process. For all auditions, all performers in the piece must be present and if there are musicians as well, they must be present too with instruments ready to perform acoustically (since they will be auditioning in a dance studio).

Dec 12-First audition- groups or soloists must have at least 30secs-1min of work to show the panel. Music must be cut or close to being cut (if needed), and have at least the costume concept ready or be in costume if possible.

Jan 16-Second audition-groups or soloists must be as close to a finished product as possible, and with costume concept (if ready) and music cut (if needed). We ask that the pieces are anywhere from 1.5mins to as close to 3.5mins in length if possible.

Feb 13-Final showing- groups or soloists must show a completed piece, music cut (if needed) and in costume (if possible).

VCA charges a one time performance fee of $50 for each performer in all groups . This helps support the time for panel reviews, coaching sessions, costume support, tech support, studio rehearsal reservations, and production costs of the facility. Registration is online at Original Works performance dates are March 23 & 24, 2018.

The date online- for registration only- reflects the last day for registering for this fee. For registration questions and help, contact VCA Registrar at 206-259-3005
